This Tuesday Manchester United got an epic victory against Copenhagen at Old Trafford in Champions League group A. The Red Devils had lost their first two matches in the tournament, against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, and needed to win to keep their chances of qualifying for the round of 16. Harry Maguire scored the only goal of the match with a header in the second half. And André Onana saved a last-second penalty against Jordan Larsson, becoming the hero at Old Trafford and turning criticism into praise.

The visitors suffered a painful defeat. Not only because they had had a good performance and even during the first half they had been superior to their rivals, but also because they felt they had been wronged by referee Marco Guida. And they pointed to two situations that happened in that last play.

The first complaint is related to Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine winger did something forbidden before Larsson kicked: he scrapped the penalty spot so that the rival player would have problems when shooting. About this, coach Jacob Neestrup said: "It is up to referees and associations to set limits. All you have to do is give a red card for something like that, then people stop doing it."

And the other situation that caused the wrath of Copenhagen was Onana's save. In several images you can see how the Manchester United goalkeeper steps forward unduly before Larsson kicks: neither of his feet are on the line. The rules say that in that case the penalty must be kicked again and the goalkeeper must be booked. However, neither Marco Guida, nor his assistants, nor the VAR saw it.

What's next?

Copenhagen will have the chance to take revenge soon. The next Champions League group A match will be on Wednesday, November 8, when the Danish team plays at home against Manchester United.
