This season Vinicius Junior has spent more time off the field than on it. His first injury was on August 25, when he had to be replaced by Joselu during the first half of the match against Celta in Vigo. A month later he was ready to return and coach Carlo Ancelotti gradually included him in the team again, until he was fully recovered again.

However, during the November international break 'Vini' again had problems. While playing for Brazil against Colombia in the South American qualifiers, he suffered another muscle injury, more serious than the previous one, which again sidelined him for a long time.

Although initial estimates indicated that he would need at least two months to recover, the Brazilian winger is exceeding expectations. He has already been working on the pitch for two weeks and even kicking the ball, although he has not yet been allowed to join the training sessions with his teammates.

According to Marca, he intends to return as soon as possible, but coach Ancelotti and Real Madrid's medical team are delaying him. They want to make sure his recovery is full and have no intention of rushing him. That's why Vinicius Junior will have to wait a few more weeks before returning to play official matches with the team in La Liga.

When will he be able to return?

Initially Real Madrid were pessimistic about Vinicius Junior's return date and estimated that, hopefully, he would be available for the first Champions League round of 16 match, i.e. the first week of February. However, they now believe that in three weeks' time he will be fit to play. This may allow him to be available for the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played between January 10 and 14 in Saudi Arabia.
