Marco Verratti and Neymar Jr. were the latest victims of the reconstruction of Paris Saint-Germain. The French side failed in the previous seasons by not being able to win the Champions League and owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi made strong decisions. Some stars such as Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos left at the expiration of their contracts, but others were excluded from the squad despite having contracts for several more years.

Neymar quickly found a way out. After understanding that a return to Barcelona was impossible, he accepted a multi-million dollar offer from Al-Hilal and left for Saudi Arabia, following the path that Cristiano Ronaldo started in 2022 with his arrival at Al-Nassr. And PSG profited from that as well, as they received almost $100 million for the sale of the Brazilian forward.

Marco Verratti could have a similar fate. According to L'Equipe, the Italian player has already agreed personal terms with Al-Ahli to play the 2023/24 season in the Pro League in exchange for a fortune. The problem is that the clubs have not yet reached an agreement with each other. The Saudi Arabian side offered $30 million to Paris Saint-Germain to buy the midfielder, but Nasser Al-Khelaifi does not consider it enough.

In fact, a few weeks ago Atletico Madrid started talks to sign Verratti, but quickly ruled out buying him when PSG told them how much they expected to receive for him: $80 million. That amount of money was unattainable for the Spanish side, but Al-Ahli have a better chance of getting closer to Al-Khelaifi's wishes.

He will join an all-star team

Should Marco Verratti's transfer be agreed, Al-Ahli will add another top player to their squad. So far they have spent $155 million on the signings of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, defenders Roger Ibañez and Merih Demiral, midfielder Franck Kessie and forwards Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximine and Roberto Firmino.
