The Netherlands and France are starring in one of the most interesting matches of the October international break. In Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, they face each other at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in Amsterdam looking for a victory that will bring them closer to the goal of securing a place in the tournament to be played next year in Germany.

And for now, it is Didier Deschamps' team that is doing just that. With all their stars on the field, France started the match perfectly: after 7 minutes Antoine Griezmann gave a pass to Jonathan Clauss, the Olympique Marseille right-back sent a cross to the box and there appeared Kylian Mbappé to score the opener with his right foot, anticipating Lutsharel Geertruida and beating the resistance of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

With this goal, 'Kiki' broke a 4-match scoreless streak. With Paris Saint-Germain he did not score against Olympique Marseille, Clermont and Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, nor against Newcastle in Champions League. This caused the French media to question the star's performances. Some even accused him of being more focused on Parisian nightlife than on soccer.

If they achieve victory in Amsterdam, France will secure their place at Euro 2024, regardless of what happens in the upcoming group B matches.

They have problems

The French are just as relieved about this 1-0 win as the Dutch are worried. They are in third place in the Group B standings, below Greece who are 2-0 up against Ireland in Dublin. This means that for now they are out of the qualification places for Euro 2024. However, they have an advantage: they have played one game less than their rivals, so they could catch them in the future.
