Manchester City flew to Saudi Arabia this week with one goal: to prove that they are the best team in the world. They have dominated England for years, having won 5 of the last 6 Premier League titles. And they did the same this season in Europe, winning the Champions League for the first time in their history and then the Super Cup against Sevilla.

But they had never competed in the Club World Cup against representatives from South America, North and Central America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. That was the title they were missing and so they were highly motivated to win it. In the semifinals they had easily defeated Urawa Reds of Japan and in the decisive match they faced Fluminense of Brazil, the champions of the Copa Libertadores.

Things started off perfectly for The Citizens, who scored the opener through Julian Alvarez after 40 seconds. Then Phil Foden doubled the lead, when he sent a drilled cross that deflected off defender Nino. And in the second half they were patient enough to control the ball and take advantage of the spaces their opponents gave them. Foden netted the third after an assist from Julian Alvarez and the Argentine striker scored again near the end to seal the 4-0 victory.

With this title, Pep Guardiola became the manager who has won the Club World Cup the most times. The tournament was created in 2007 and since then he won it 4 times. The first two were with Barcelona, in 2009 and 2011, while the previous one had been with Bayern Munich. He had arrived in the summer of 2013 to replace Jupp Heynckes, who had led the team to the Champions League title that year.

What's next for them?

Manchester City will have a rest this weekend, as their match against Brentford in the Premier League was postponed. But in just five days they must travel to the city of Liverpool to face Everton.
