Real Madrid proved that they are one of the best teams in Europe right now, and that in Spain they are favorites to win the title. This Saturday they faced Girona at the Estadio Montilivi, who were the leaders of the La Liga standings going into the weekend and had not lost a game this season.

But Los Merengues quickly did their job: 17 minutes into the first half, Joselu scored the opener after a brilliant assist from Jude Bellingham. And just a few moments later, Toni Kroos sent a cross into the box and Aurélien Tchouaméni netted the second with a beautiful header, taking advantage of the fact that no Girona defender was near him to prevent it.

In the second half Jude Bellingham scored the third and final goal after 25 minutes: Joselu shot and goalkeeper Gazzaniga saved it, but the English midfielder caught the rebound and shot powerfully with his right foot. The victory allowed Real Madrid to once again become leaders in the standings with 21 points, one more than Barcelona and two more than Girona.

However, one of the most important players of the team is surely not happy: Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder was on the bench and did not even play a minute. The coach preferred other substitutes such as Lucas Vazquez, Dani Ceballos, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz to play. And it is not the first time this has happened: on Wednesday against Las Palmas it was the same story. His last game was against Atlético Madrid, when he was replaced at half-time by Joselu.

What did the coach say about him?

Ancelotti was asked several times about Modric in recent weeks. Just a few days ago he said in a press conference: "I have spoken to him because he is having to put up with more than usual. I have given more prominence to the young players. The squad has a lot of competition. I know what he can contribute and he's going to do it this year even if it's with less minutes".
