This Sunday Chelsea and Manchester City played one of the best matches in recent years in the Premier League. At Stamford Bridge the visitors won with a goal by Erling Haaland; then Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling turned the tables and Manuel Akanji made it 2-2 before the break. Then Haaland scored again for the Citizens, while Nicolas Jackson netted the equaliser.
And in the last minutes there was time for two more goals: Rodri put Manchester City ahead again, but in stoppage time Armando Broja was brought down inside the box and Cole Palmer scored from the spot to make it 4-4. This caused the Chelsea fans to celebrate, but also the disappointment of the visitors, who could not believe how they lost two points despite scoring four goals away from home.
However, a video filmed from the stands at Stamford Bridge showed an incredible detail: a Manchester City player appears to be celebrating Chelsea's goal. He is Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian midfielder who had come on during the second half to replace Julian Alvarez.
The video shows the moment when Cole Palmer runs towards the ball, shoots with his left foot and scores the goal despite goalkeeper Ederson's attempt to save it. Chelsea players celebrate on the sidelines and Manchester City players lament. Except Kovacic, who apparently makes a celebratory gesture by clenching his right fist.
Mateo Kovacic played several years at Chelsea. In fact, he arrived at Manchester City from there this summer in exchange for $30 million. That's why many suspect he still supports The Blues and many fans on social media commented on that: "Kovacic stylishly celebrated the equalizer. Once a blue is always a blue"; "Kovacic is a proper chels"; "Kovacic is Chelsea through and through".
