In their debut in the Champions League 2023/24, things are not going as Manchester United expected. At halftime of the first match against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, they are losing 2-0 by goals from Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry.

The start of the match had been good for the Red Devils, who showed conviction to take the ball away from the German side and create dangerous situations. With that scenario, they came close to scoring the opener when Christian Eriksen provided a great assist to Facundo Pellistri inside the box, but the Uruguayan winger was unable to finish and Alphonso Davies made a great effort to deny the ball.

As the minutes ticked by, Manchester United lost energy and fell behind, while Bayern Munich began to dominate the ball and the field. And in the 28th minute the opener was netted, when Leroy Sané shot with his left foot from outside the box and goalkeeper Andre Onana made a ridiculous mistake that allowed the Germans to score, letting the ball pass under his body.

And that was not all. Just 3 minutes later, Jamal Musiala made a great individual move down the left side of the field, dribbled past two opposing defenders and assisted Serge Gnabry. The German forward shot with his left foot past Onana's resistance to score the second goal.

Can they recover after the break?

Manchester United showed an acceptable level during the first half, but failed at key moments and it cost them a lot. Now, with a two-goal deficit, they will have a difficult challenge. Perhaps coach Eric Ten Hag will find solutions on the bench. The substitutes are Tom Heaton, Altay Bayindir, Radek Vitek, Johnny Evans, Scott McTominay, Hannibal Mejbri, Omari Forson, Daniel Gore, Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho.
