Real Madrid need to get a win this Sunday against Cadiz to become the new leaders of the La Liga standings. They are currently in second place with 32 points, 2 behind Girona, who play Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Therefore, if Los Merengues win, at least for one day they will be on top.

And for now they are getting it. Carlo Ancelotti's team started in a good way, as after 14 minutes of the first half they were already up on the scoreboard: Rodrygo received a pass from Jude Bellingham and started a great individual play in the left sector, entered the box dribbling rivals and, when he had space, he shot with his right foot and made impossible the save of goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma.

The curious thing is that Rodrygo Goes was not going to be part of the starting lineup. In fact, many things had to happen for the Brazilian forward to be part of the team and, particularly, to play in that sector of the field.

First of all, Vinicius Junior was injured during the international break. The winger is the one who usually plays in that position. And the initial plan of coach Carlo Ancelotti was that Brahim Diaz would be part of the team, but he could not play due to stomach problems and at the last minute Rodrygo had to replace him. Luck was on Real Madrid's side, who finally celebrated thanks to the Brazilian forward.

They are fulfilling the objective, for now

The Madrid side are beating Cadiz 1-0 and for now they are the leaders of the La Liga standings, but they cannot relax. Their rivals have had a few chances to score the equaliser, but goalkeeper Andriy Lunin saved them. Perhaps after the break coach Carlo Ancelotti will make some changes in the team to improve their performance.
