Sunday's final match in Spain is probably the most interesting of the weekend. At the Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys in Montjuic, Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid. Both teams are aiming for a win to move closer to the top of La Liga. For now in the standings the leaders are Real Madrid and Girona with 38 points, while Los Blaugranas and Los Colchoneros are further down with 31 points.
That is why this game is so important for both teams. They know that whoever loses will be far from the top of the standings and will hardly have a chance to catch up with the leaders.
That tension was clear from the beginning of the first half. Each team tried to damage the rival by taking advantage of their own virtues: the hosts, the precision in the passes and the patience to look for spaces; the visitors, their defensive solidity and the speed of their forwards to create dangerous situations in each counterattack. In this scenario, Barcelona were able to impose their style and had several opportunities to score, for example through Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
Xavi Hernandez's team finally netted the opener after 28 minutes of the first half: after a long play in which several of the team's players participated, Jules Koundé gave a pass to Raphinha, who found enough space in the opponent's field to advance several yards and assist Joao Felix, who entered the box and shot softly over goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
If there was one Barcelona player who was hungry to score this Sunday against Atlético Madrid, it was Joao Felix. Los Colchoneros are the Portuguese forward's parent club, but coach Diego Simeone has had problems with him and so he was loaned out to Chelsea in January and Barcelona this season. And since then there have been harsh words between Joao and his former teammates. That's why the goal was undoubtedly special for him, although in celebration he tried to be respectful.
