In this October international break, important matches will be played in the qualifiers for Euro 2024 to be held in Germany. Meanwhile, UEFA announced that they have already decided where the next two editions of the tournament will be played.

Euro 2028 had two contenders: UK and Ireland on the one hand, and Turkey. But this week the latter withdrew and only one alternative remained. That's why UEFA's ruling executive committee took the decision to choose UK and Ireland and officially announced it.

The tournament will be played in five different countries. England will have the most venues, six in total: Villa Park (Birmingham), St James' Park (Newcastle), Ettihad Stadium (Manchester), Everton's in-construction new home (Liverpool) and two in London, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley. The latter will host the final of the tournament. It's understood that the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, will host the opening match. In addition, there will also be matches in the Republic of Ireland (Dublin's Aviva Stadium), in Scotland (Hampden Park in Glasgow) and in Northern Ireland (Casement Park in Belfast).

24 teams will participate in Euro 2028, while 51 matches will be played in total. What is not yet confirmed is whether the hosts will qualify for the tournament automatically or whether they will have to compete in the play-offs. UEFA regulations only allow for two guaranteed slots, so it is most likely that all five countries will participate in the play-offs and that there will be two 'backstop' places left open to ensure that the majority of hosts will be at the tournament.

They also confirmed the following

Surprisingly, UEFA not only announced not only the UK and Ireland as hosts of Euro 2028, but also the organizers of the next tournament. Euro 2032 will be jointly hosted by Italy and Turkey. Apparently, UEFA executives advised the Turks to join the Italians for 2032 rather than competing for 2028.
