Barcelona received terrible news a few weeks ago, when Gavi suffered an injury while playing with the Spanish National Team in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia. The young midfielder jumped to try to control the ball and fell with all the weight of his body on his knee, which caused him intense pain that prevented him from continuing to play.
A few hours later, medical tests were performed, which gave terrible results: he suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligaments and meniscus, so he had to undergo surgery and start a long recovery process that will prevent him from playing again this season with Barcelona and from being in the Euro 2024 with Spain.
This also caused an unexpected problem for coach Xavi Hernandez, who considered Gavi a key player of the team. That's why since then newspapers, TV shows and social media are flooded with rumors about the players that the Catalan side will look for to replace the midfielder.
"We need another Gavi, but it's difficult," Xavi said a few days ago. And now the Sport newspaper revealed two options that interest Los Blaugranas: Adrien Rabiot and Marco Verratti. The former has a contract with Juventus until June 30, 2024 and, although he has already started talks with the Italian side to renew, the appearance of Barcelona could change his plans. The Italian player, on the other hand, joined Al-Arabi from Qatar this summer for $50 million, but perhaps a 6-month loan offer to Spain could be tempting for him.
Barcelona not only need a holding midfielder, but also a forward. And considering the serious financial problems they have, they may have to choose one or the other. In that case, the favorite to join during the January transfer window is Vitor Roque, the Athletico Paranaense forward that Los Blaugranas agreed to buy this summer.
