The Catalan side are already thinking about players who could arrive this winter.

Barcelona's chiefs are not distracted by the good results obtained at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. The team has shown good performances and achieved 6 wins in their 7 matches, between La Liga and Champions League. But sporting director Deco, his assistants and coach Xavi Hernandez are still not 100% satisfied with the squad and are making plans for the next transfer window.

The club's long-standing financial problems complicated negotiations this summer. In fact, two of the most important signings (Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo) arrived on the last day. And the Chiefs were unable to fulfill the coach's desire to add one more midfielder.

That is why they are working to solve this in the winter. In January the transfer window will open again and there Los Blaugranas will try to sign at least one player. The main one targeted by Xavi is Giovani Lo Celso. The Tottenham midfielder has not had much participation this season in the Premier League and, according to Sport newspaper, he wants to leave.

However, Spurs announced this summer that they will not let him leave unless a club pay $15 million for him. If they maintain this decision in January, Barcelona will hardly be able to sign him, as they have problems with financial fair-play rules.

Plan B

Another club interested in Lo Celso is Real Betis. He played there in the 2018/19 season and showed great performances. If the Spanish team sign him, they could let Guido Rodriguez go, who was also targeted by Barcelona. Both Lo Celso and Rodríguez are Argentines and play in the National Team with Lionel Messi, but they have different characteristics. The Tottenham player stands out for his creativity and ability to provide assists; while Guido is a holding midfielder whose main virtues are marking and recovering the ball.
