In 2017 Neymar became the most expensive soccer player of all time when Paris Saint-Germain paid the €222 million (nearly $240 million) of his exit clause to Barcelona. This changed the sport forever, as from that moment on, transfer money and player salaries are getting higher and higher.

And in December 2022 another turning point happened, when Cristiano Ronaldo accepted Al-Nassr's offer and decided to go to Saudi Arabia for more than $200 million a year. Since then, more and more stars have been leaving Europe to play for Pro League clubs for impressive salaries.

Now Al-Ittihad want to change everything with the signing of Mohamed Salah. Liverpool already rejected an offer of almost $215 million last week, but the Saudis did not give up and traveled to England to continue negotiations. According to The Sun, on Monday night they made a new offer to The Reds for $270 million. And they are willing to pay the player a salary of more than $3 million a week, that is, almost $150 million a year, plus bonuses.

The English newspaper claims that, should Liverpool reject the offer, Al-Ittihad will not give up. They will no longer have time to continue negotiating right now, as the transfer window in Saudi Arabia closes on Thursday, September 7. But they will try again when next year begins.

What's on the squad's mind?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has assured several times over the last few days that Salah is "100% committed" to the team, something the player confirmed with his performances, as he has been key for The Reds in the first few Premier League games. In fact, this weekend he scored one of the 3 goals in the win against Aston Villa at Anfield Road.
