The criticisms of José Mourinho's performance in the Europa League final against Sevilla continue. Xavi Hernández, coach of Barcelona, has emphasized the importance of players and coaches setting an example and hopes that they never behave as Mourinho did after the match.
Mourinho waited for Taylor in the parking lot of the Puskas Arena and insulted him when he appeared. Furthermore, in subsequent interviews after the match, the Portuguese coach had blamed the English referee, claiming that he “looked Spanish”.
UEFA has formally initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mourinho, which exposes him to a possible extended sanction. Additionally, the Portuguese coach will serve a one-match suspension in the final game of the season against Spezia at Stadio Olimpico due to accumulated yellow cards in Serie A.
The criticisms and disciplinary proceedings highlight the controversy generated by Mourinho's actions in the final. His behavior has been questioned by different sectors, and it is expected that UEFA will take the appropriate measures to maintain integrity and fair play in football. The sanction imposed for the final match of the season demonstrates the direct consequences of his actions.
This is what Xavi said about it, "It's difficult; everyone acts as they see fit. If you feel aggrieved, in a final... but players and coaches should be examples. Just as we ask not to be insulted, we should be the first to lead by example. Conduct is important, and I hope to never fall into this image”.
