Amidst rumors of a possible retirement from football due to knee pain, Gremio's president, Alberto Guerra, has stated that Luis Suárez's situation may be serious.
The internationally renowned Uruguayan striker could require a prosthesis due to osteoarthritis in his right knee, as mentioned by the president of the Brazilian club. During an event with the team's fans in Porto Alegre, Guerra mentioned that the situation of the 36-year-old player is concerning, and the possibility of a surgical intervention to implant a prosthesis in the knee is being considered.
"He has received many injections and medications, and he is reaching a point where one does not know what will happen," stated Guerra, without hinting at the star striker's retirement from the club. According to the GZH portal, it is expected that Suárez will meet with Gremio's board in the coming days to reach an agreement regarding his departure from the team.
Sources from Gremio have informed EFE that the club will issue a statement soon regarding the situation of their star striker, without confirming or denying the information. Since his arrival at Gremio earlier this year, Suárez has stood out as a key figure in the team, scoring fourteen goals and providing eight assists in 26 matches.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Suárez's right knee has caused him discomfort, as in 2020, he had to undergo meniscus surgery while playing for Barcelona, which kept him away from the pitch for several months.
