This Sunday Barcelona lost 4-2 against Girona at the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys in Montjuic and missed an unbeatable opportunity in La Liga. They were facing one of the leaders in the standings and, should they get a win, they could get closer to the top of the tournament, taking advantage of Real Madrid's 1-1 draw vs Real Betis.

But none of that happened. Los Tozudos proved to be a tough team, scored the opener and then recovered from the equaliser netted by Robert Lewandowski. The victory allowed them to become the sole leaders of La Liga with 41 points, 2 more than Los Merengues and 7 more than Atlético Madrid and Barcelona.

For Los Blaugranas it was a hard blow, which was added to others they had suffered in recent weeks, such as the defeat against Real Madrid in the 'Clasico' and against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. And this deepened the criticism to some players of the squad and especially to the coach Xavi Hernandez, who is questioned some decisions and strategies.

However, the manager assured in the press conference after the defeat that he was quite satisfied with his team's performance: "Today luck wasn't with us, but it could have been different. We should not hesitate at any time. We didn't play a bad game, it's a hard blow for us and congratulations to Girona".

Deco does not agree with him

Barcelona's sporting director gave an interview to DAZN after the match and surprised everyone by giving a very different opinion on the team's performance. He said: “We didn't play a good game. We were not convincing. They started winning. We drew. We were not strong enough to win the game. They were convincing, they knew what they were coming for and they have quality. We tried but we couldn't do it”.
