For years the main European clubs have had a new recruitment policy. They increasingly target younger players, especially South Americans, and buy them when they are just teenagers, confident that with a few more years of training and experience they will become soccer stars.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have done this lately. Los Merengues had success with Vinicius Junior, whom they signed when he was only 17 years old and had played a few games for Flamengo. And they repeated the experiment with Rodrygo Goes, who played for Santos.

Next year Endrick will follow the same path: once he turns 18, he will leave Palmeiras and join La Casa Blanca in exchange for more than $70 million. And Los Blaugranas will do exactly the same with Vitor Roque. The Athletico Paranaense striker has already agreed to join the Catalan side and from January will be part of Xavi Hernandez's squad, where he will compete with Robert Lewandowski to be the team's centre-forward.

However, the Spanish teams' plans may be affected by an unexpected reason. Between January 20 and February 11, the South American Pre-Olympic tournament, which awards two places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, will be played. There the teams will compete for that goal and for that purpose they will call up players under 23 years of age.

One of them will be there

The coach of Brazil's U-23 team, Ramon Menezes, decided to include Endrick in the list of 23 players called up for the Pre-Olympic tournament. And he will not be the only Real Madrid player, as defender Vinicius Tobias will also be there. But Barcelona was luckier: Vitor Roque is not part of the roster and will be able to stay with the team. This is great news for coach Xavi Hernandez, otherwise he could miss at least five La Liga matches.
