Juventus face an unexpected problem at the start of the 2023/24 season. Paul Pogba, one of their most important players, tested positive in an anti-doping test after the first Serie A match against Udinese. That day they won 3-0 and the midfielder was on the bench, but did not even play a minute. However, he had to take the test and the results were positive for testosterone.

Now, while waiting for the results of the second test, Juventus accepted the provisional suspension of the player. In case the positive doping is confirmed, Pogba could be out of the field for a long time, since the sanction foreseen for this type of cases has a maximum of 2 years, if it was accidental, or 4 years, if it is proven that it was intentional.

Given this scenario, reports indicate that the Italian club could terminate his contract in case he is found guilty. And then they will need to add a new midfielder in his place, something they will only be able to do in the winter transfer window.

La Repubblica reports that Juventus chiefs are interested in a player who stands out in the Premier League: Thomas Partey. The Arsenal midfielder has had great performances since his arrival from Atlético Madrid in 2020. Since then he has played 103 games for the Gunners and was a key part of the team that finished second in the Premier League last season.

Not the first time he has been targeted

Juventus already showed their interest in Thomas Partey this summer, and even started talks with Arsenal for him. But in the end the negotiations failed and the Ghanaian player stayed in England. Coach Mikel Arteta considers him an important player because of his versatility and, in fact, in the first games of this season he used him as a right-back, as Declan Rice is now in midfield.
