For weeks now, the media and social networks have been publishing news about Inter Miami on a daily basis. A team that until recently did not generate much interest in the soccer world, suddenly became a fan favorite. The cause of this abrupt change has a name: Lionel Messi. The Argentinean player arrived on David Beckham's side and instantly everything changed.
Along with him came coach Gerardo Martino, left-back Jordi Alba and midfielder Sergio Busquets, all of whom had played together with Leo at Barcelona. Rumors had been swirling for a few days that Luis Suarez could join them, and now the facts are beginning to prove them right.
On Saturday the Uruguayan striker gave a press conference in Brazil in which he announced that he will leave Gremio in December and will not fulfill his second year of his contract, which expires at the end of 2024: "You have to be honest with yourself, with your body and with the club. Next year I would not be able to give Gremio what they expect from me, due to the load and intensity of Brazilian soccer. It is a decision that was discussed with the club, they understood it and I am grateful for it".
The main reason for his departure is the problems he has suffered with his knee. "I have a chronic injury that I do not hide and that the club already knew I had," he said in this regard, and assured: "My goal is that at the end of September we win the Brazil Cup, it would be something incredible. I dream that my children and my wife will see it".
Suarez was asked about the chance of playing for Inter Miami in 2024 and replied: "As far as I understand they communicated with Gremio, and Gremio responded that I had a contract and that at this moment there was no possibility. But nothing happened with me at any time".
