Real Madrid star suffered a serious injury and will be off the field for a long time

Every time an international break arrives, club coaches pray that none of their players return with an injury. This is commonly referred to in Europe as the 'FIFA virus'. The demands of international matches, the short rest time and the long trips affect the physical condition of the players and this often leads to injuries.

But in other situations it is simply bad luck. That's what happened this week in France national team training. Didier Deschamps' team were practicing at the Clairefontaine site when an accident happened: Ousmane Dembélé collided with Eduardo Camavinga. The Real Madrid midfielder suffered the consequences, as the impact caused him great pain that prevented him from continuing training.

He was quickly checked by French doctors and the diagnosis was not good. He suffered a sprained right knee and will be out of the field for a long time. Initially it was believed that in just over a month he could be back, but now it seems that his recovery will be even slower. According to Marca, Los Merengues believe that he will not play again in 2023.

This injury will not only prevent Camavinga from playing in the matches against Gibraltar and Greece for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, but will also affect Real Madrid. Eduardo will miss at least five La Liga games (vs Cadiz, Granada, Real Betis, Villarreal and Alaves) and the last two Champions League Group C games (vs Napoli and Union Berlin).

They have alternatives

While Eduardo Camavinga's injury will complicate Carlo Ancelotti's plans, as he will now have to replace him with the players he has in the squad, the solution is much simpler for Didier Deschamps. The coach of the French national team decided to call up another player in his place: Khephren Thuram, Nice midfielder, was called up immediately.
