This Saturday started like any other in the Premier League. Several matches captured the interest of the spectators, especially the game between Chelsea and Sheffield United, which ended with a 2-0 victory for the Blues, and the match between Manchester City and Crystal Palace, which ended in a 2-2 draw. In addition, Newcastle beat Fulham 3-0 and Everton did the same 2-0 against Burnley.
However, the match that stole all the attention was the one that, curiously, had caused the least expectation among fans at the beginning of the day. At the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth took on Luton Town. The visitors scored the opener 3 minutes into the first half through Elijah Adebayo, while Dominik Solanke netted the leveller 13 minutes into the second half.
But just moments after that goal, the game came to an abrupt halt due to an unexpected situation: Luton Town skipper Tom Lockyer fell to the ground while the ball was in another sector of the field. This alarmed the players of both teams, who alerted the referee to allow the medics to come in.
For several minutes there was extreme concern and anguish as the specialists tried to revive the defender. Finally, he was taken off the field and the match was suspended.
A few minutes after what happened, Luton Town shared a message on social media informing about Lockyer's health: "Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher. He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides. Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside."
