With less than a week to go before the start of Ligue 1 2023/24, the news of Paris Saint-Germain's decision to get rid of Neymar Jr. and Marco Verratti came as a surprise to everyone. The Brazilian forward and the Italian midfielder have been key players for the French side in recent years and had always been in Luis Enrique's consideration during this preseason.

However, the club's chiefs seem to be determined to completely revamp the squad and get rid of the stars that failed in previous seasons. First Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos left, then Kylian Mbappé was punished for refusing to renew his contract and now Neymar and Verratti could leave France in the coming days.

At the same time, several top players were signed to form the new team: Arnau Tenas, Milan Skriniar, Ndour Cher, Lucas Hernandez, Manuel Ugarte, Kang-In Lee, Marco Asensio and Goncalo Ramos. Ousmane Dembélé will surely join them this week. But this is not enough for the coach, who believes that more players are still needed to raise the team's level.

That is why, according to journalist Andres Onrubia of the newspaper As, PSG are considering withdrawing the punishment to several players who were left out of the squad at the beginning of the preseason. This has already happened with Abdou Diallo and Leandro Paredes and Georginio Wijnaldum could be added. This would allow Luis Enrique to find solutions to Verratti's departure.

For now 'Kiki' won't

Kylian Mbappé is also part of the players who were separated from the squad and train without the team. However, the reasons for this decision have nothing to do with what is happening on the pitch, but with his refusal to renew his contract. So far, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is not considering withdrawing his punishment and allowing him to return to play for PSG.
