For weeks Joao Felix has been trying to leave Atlético Madrid. And the Spanish club have the same desire. The relationship between the Portuguese forward and coach Diego Simeone has not been good for a long time, and that got worse when journalist Fabrizio Romano published an interview in which the player said that his dream was to play in Barcelona. This was considered disrespectful to the Madrid side and only increased the tension.

At the start of the 2023/24 La Liga season, Joao Felix has not played even one minute for Atlético Madrid. In the first game, against Granada, he was on the bench and did not enter; while last week he was not even called up to play against Real Betis in Sevilla.

Meanwhile, rumors indicate that Barcelona are preparing an offer to sign him. Although the intention of Los Colchoneros is to sell the player to recover at least part of the investment they made for him, the plan of the Catalan side is to wait until the last days of the transfer window and offer to take him on loan.

Another alternative is for him to go to Saudi Arabia. The Pro League is not a destination that attracts Felix, but in case he does not agree to leave Madrid after September 1, he will have 20 more days to negotiate with Al-Hilal. The problem is that the Asian team is not willing to buy him and Atlético Madrid fears that the player will be undervalued playing in Saudi Arabia.

Plan C

The unexpected club that could take Joao Felix is Benfica. There he played between 2018 and 2019 43 games and scored 20 goals, leaving a great memory. So now, faced with this scenario of doubts about his future, the Portuguese side believe they can take advantage. According to the newspaper As, they have communicated with people close to the player to motivate him to return. A few days ago, Joao Mario, a player of the club, said: "He would be an excellent player for Benfica. If he wants to come, he will always be welcome".
