On Thursday morning Real Madrid received unexpected news, when Thibaut Courtois left training in tears after suffering an injury to his left knee. A few hours later, the club published on their social networks and website an official statement in which they confirmed that the goalkeeper suffered a ruptured ligament and will be out of the field for at least 6 months.

This undoubtedly caused sadness and concern of everyone in the Spanish side, since the Belgian is one of the most important players of the team and has been fundamental in the successes they have achieved in recent years. Now they will have to look for a replacement, while in the first La Liga match Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will play.

But Courtois was not the only bad news of the day. Another squad player will also undergo surgery on a knee injury: Arda Güler. The Turkish midfielder arrived this summer from Fenerbahce and has not yet been able to play even a minute in the white jersey, as he was injured in training during the first days of the tour in the United States.

Güler has a partial meniscus tear in his right leg. Initially, Real Madrid's medical team opted for conservative treatment to try to avoid surgery. However, they have now decided, together with the player, to change the strategy and perform the surgery. For that reason, his debut with Los Merengues will have to wait a few more weeks.

Signings needed

So far Real Madrid have 5 new players: defender Fran García, midfielders Jude Bellingham, Brahim Díaz and Arda Güler and striker Joselu. However, injuries and the non-arrival of Kylian Mbappé will force Florentino Pérez to sign more players. A goalkeeper will be added in the coming weeks, and perhaps a striker too.
