Cristiano Ronaldo is having a great 2023/24 season. In his first six months in Saudi Arabia he showed good performances and scored several goals, but could not help Al-Nassr win the Pro League title. However, now the team was reinforced with top stars like Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic and Aymeric Laporte and things are much better.

This week they played their third match in the group stage of the Asian Champions League and beat Al-Duhail of Qatar 4-2. CR7 scored two goals and was the team's most outstanding player, completing a perfect week with four goals for Portugal in the Euro 2024 qualifiers and two for his club.

After the match, Al-Duhail's coach said, “When you face Ronaldo, there's not much you can do. He scored two good goals. I have no words to describe him. What he did is extraordinary for a 38-year-old player. He's still the best player in the world”.

What caught everyone's attention is that the person who said this was Christophe Galtier. The coach worked at Paris Saint-Germain until this summer, when he agreed to leave the club after the Champions League failure against Bayern Munich. In France he managed stars like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, but now he forgot about them and chose Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world.

Not everyone agrees with him

While Galtier has valid reasons to believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world (in fact he scored more goals in 2023 than anyone else), the opinion of most fans and specialists is different. This is clear from the list of nominees for the Ballon d'Or to be awarded next Monday, October 30 in Paris: CR7 is not there, but Lionel Messi is.
