By scoring a goal, Messi secured PSG's ninth title in the last eleven years in Ligue 1 and raised their total to eleven championships throughout their history. This standout performance by Messi not only contributed to the team's success but also set a new personal record and left a historic mark in his career.
Leo Messi managed to score his sixteenth goal while providing sixteen assists, leading the chart in this statistic throughout the season. However, this goal was not just another one, as it became his 496th goal in the top five European leagues: the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
The Argentine's 496 goals, which also allowed him to equal Dani Alves as the most decorated player in football history, are divided into 474 goals with Barcelona and 22 with the Parisian team. These impressive records were achieved across 577 matches, with an average of 0.86 goals per game.
With this achievement, Leo Messi surpassed the previous mark set by Cristiano Ronaldo, who stopped adding to this list since joining Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The Argentine now has 496 goals, surpassing Ronaldo's 495. In this list, the Englishman Jimmy Greaves follows with 366 goals, and the German Gerd Müller with 365.
Now we'll have to wait and see what Lionel Messi's future holds and whether he can continue to increase his goal-scoring streak. If he returns to Barcelona, without a doubt, this tally of 496 goals will continue to grow. However, if he accepts the offer from Saudi Arabia, those goals would no longer count in this list.
