Barcelona have been interested in Bernardo Silva for weeks now. Coach Xavi Hernandez believes his team need a top level attacking midfielder to be able to compete with the best sides in Europe, and the Portuguese player seems to be the ideal option. In fact, Joan Laporta publicly acknowledged that the club are interested in signing him.
However, the negotiation is not easy. Pep Guardiola considers Silva one of the most important players in the team, as he already proved in the second leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals, when he scored two goals and was the most outstanding player of the match.
But the midfielder's opinion is important to decide his future, and reports indicate that his desire is to go to Barcelona. In this regard, Guardiola spoke at a press conference this week and said: "If someone is not comfortable and wants to leave we will not put impediments, but they have to present a good offer". A 'good offer' for Manchester City is €80 million.
The problem is that Barcelona have no chance of matching the Citizens' wishes. The serious economic problems they have been facing for years and the rules of financial fair play make it impossible for the Spanish side to make such an offer. That is why, according to As, they have tried to negotiate a one-season loan with a mandatory buyout clause for next year, something that Manchester City will not accept in any way.
Xavi Hernandez has Bernardo Silva as his priority, but in case his arrival cannot be agreed, he has given Laporta a list of alternatives to replace him. The main favorite is Giovani Lo Celso, who is not a priority for Tottenham and could leave for a much smaller amount of money than Silva, something that Barcelona could pay.
