In a joint interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport, Leo Messi has revealed his future plans, and it involves joining Inter Miami. This comes after much conversation and speculation about a possible return to Barcelona.
"I had a strong desire, a lot of excitement to be able to return, but after experiencing what I went through and the departure I had, I didn't want to be in the same situation again: waiting to see what would happen and leaving my future in the hands of others," Messi stated in the interview with the two main Catalan newspapers.
The economic situation of Barcelona has influenced Messi's decision, as he affirmed that he didn't want to financially impact his teammates, and although he received offers from other European clubs, he didn't even consider those options because it was Barcelona or nothing.
After nothing materialized with Barcelona, Messi decided to move to MLS and stated, "It's not completely closed 100%, but we have decided to take this path. If the Barcelona option didn't work out, I wanted to leave Europe, step away from the spotlight, and focus more on my family."
Despite a couple of years passing since his departure from Barcelona, he confessed that he still feels frustrated for not being able to leave in the best way, and in the future, he would like to have a proper farewell with the people who supported him through thick and thin.
With this decision Leo Messi will embark on a new chapter in his career at Inter Miami, leaving behind his legacy at Barcelona and seeking new experiences both on the football field and personally.
