This Friday Manchester City won one of the most important titles in soccer. When they won the Champions League last summer in Istanbul, they secured a place in the Club World Cup, the tournament that brings together the winners of all the world's confederations. And there they proved that European clubs are still the kings of soccer.

After beating Urawa Red Diamonds in the semifinals, they faced the South American champions, Fluminense of Brazil. And they had no trouble getting past them as well. Julian Alvarez scored two goals (the first of them 40 seconds into the first half), Phil Foden netted another and defender Nino, with an own goal, the other.

This allowed the Citizens to become world champions for the first time in their history. And for Pep Guardiola it was the fourth time, making him the coach who achieved it most times in the history of soccer, having done it in 2009 and 2011 with Barcelona and in 2013 with Bayern Munich. However, the Spanish manager had reasons not to be so happy.

During the second half he was forced to replace one of the team's best players, Rodri. The Spanish midfielder, a key player for Manchester City, received a hard kick from Alexsander that caused him a lot of pain. For that reason he had to be treated by the club's doctors and tried to continue playing, but a few minutes later he had to leave the field and Manuel Akanji came on in his place.

What did he say?

After the match Rodri gave an interview and gave good news about his physical condition: "I was very lucky today. It was one of the worst tackles in my career. I was so scared because I felt my knee but fortunately it was nothing," he said. And then he added: "I said to the player: 'You cannot do these kind of actions.' Today, I won more than a trophy. I go home safe but I was very close to crying. I felt very worried but it is nothing."
