The France National Team will play this Friday against Netherlands for the Euro 2024 qualifiers. For now they are leaders of group B with 15 points, having won all 5 matches they played. But they will face their strongest rival, who have 9 points and have played one game less than them. This means that, if Les Bleus lose, they could be in second place in the standings next week.
So it will be a key match for them and coach Didier Deschamps will need the help of all the stars of the team, including Kylian Mbappé. The striker has been targeted in recent weeks by the French press, which criticizes him for not having performed well for Paris Saint-Germain, especially in the 4-1 defeat against Newcastle in the Champions League.
This Monday Deschamps gave a press conference in which he answered questions from journalists. He spoke about the French national team, their upcoming opponents and some players in particular, including 'Kiki'. About him he said: "He is not in a period of efficiency as he usually is. For a player like him, it's a little more noticeable. With everything he's had during this summer, he's entitled to have, in this infernal rhythm of games, a period where he's a little less well or less effective."
However, he then went on to highlight a few areas where he feels Mbappé has been better in recent games: “He's more available, more mobile and repeated a lot of efforts against Stade Rennais”.
Kylian Mbappé is going through an unusual negative streak for him: he has failed to score goals in the last 4 games he played with Paris Saint-Germain (against Olympique Marseille, Clermont and Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, and against Newcastle in Champions League). Now, with France, he will have the opportunity to do so against Netherlands on Friday and in a friendly match against Scotland next Tuesday.
