Kylian Mbappé, the talented French forward, has not yet overcome the bitter defeat of France in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Despite his outstanding performance in the tournament, where he scored a hat-trick in the final and became the top scorer with 8 goals, the final result remains painful for him.
Following France's recent 1-0 victory over Greece in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Mbappé shared his feelings about the World Cup final. The forward confessed that he would have traded his three goals for an ugly goal if it meant winning the most important trophy in the world.
Mbappé came close to becoming the villain of Argentina in the Qatar 2022 final. His stellar performance allowed France to come back from a 2-0 deficit and take the match to penalties with a decisive goal in the last minute. However, despite his brilliant display, the trophy slipped through his fingers.
Six months after that historic match, Mbappé reflected on what happened and assessed the season, in which he won the Ligue 1 title but couldn't fulfill his dream of winning the Champions League.
"What do I remember the most from the season? The World Cup. It's a very special competition. I would have traded my hat-trick in the final for an ugly goal to win 1-0," confessed Mbappé after France's victory in the qualifiers, where he scored a penalty goal.
