This Saturday the draw for Euro 2024 was held in Hamburg. The most important national team tournament on the European continent will be held in Germany, starting on June 14 in Munich and ending on July 14 in Berlin. In addition, there will be eight other venues: Hamburg, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Cologne, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen.
The format of the tournament will have, first of all, a group stage. The 24 teams will be divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. The teams that finish first and second in their groups will advance directly to the round of 16. They will be joined by the four best third-placed teams. From there, they will face each other in knockout stages until the two finalists will play for the title in Berlin.
The hosts were quite lucky in the draw, as they avoided the toughest opponents they could have faced. In addition to Germany, Group A includes Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland. Group B is the "group of death": there are the last champions, Italy, along with Spain, Croatia and Albania. Logic suggests that the latter will have a lot of problems to advance to the next round, while the teams of Luka Modric, Pedri and Federico Chiesa will compete for the top places.
In group C the favorites are England, while the other teams are Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia. In the next group are France, Netherlands, Austria and playoff winners A (whoever wins among Wales, Finland, Poland and Estonia).
Belgium were the luckiest in the draw. In group D they will face Slovakia, Romania and playoff winners B (Bosnia Herzegovina, Israel, Ukraine or Iceland). And Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal also have reason to celebrate: their opponents will be Turkey, Czechia and playoff winners C (Georgia, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan or Greece).
