Zinedine Zidane is a world soccer star. He was one of the best players of his generation, shining at Juventus and Real Madrid, with whom he won the most important titles in Europe, and led the French national team to the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. And his success continued after retirement, as as a coach he proved to be a winner as well: he managed Real Madrid between 2015 and 2021, winning 3 times the Champions League.

After leaving the Spanish side, he has not worked again. He was mentioned on more than one occasion as an alternative at Paris Saint-Germain; as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, if he leaves in 2024 for the Brazilian national team; and as a successor to Didier Deschamps in France. But so far these have been nothing more than rumors.

However, it seems that now things could be different. According to FranceBleu, Zidane agreed to be the coach of Olympique Marseille, but on one condition: that the club be sold to Saudi Arabian investors. The French team have had serious problems at the start of the 2023/24 season, such as the resignation of manager Marcelino Garcia Toral due to pressure from fans, so the arrival of 'Zizou' would be a great solution.

But it will not be easy, as owner Frank McCourt has said on more than one occasion that the club is not for sale. But Prince Bin Salman, who also owns Newcastle, is interested in Olympique Marseille. And FranceBleu claim that Zidane is excited about this opportunity, as he would have the financial resources to compete with the top clubs in Europe.

He has been away from France for a long time

Although Zinedine Zidane is one of the greatest French sportsmen of all time, he has not worked there for a long time. He began his professional career as a player with AS Cannes between 1988 and 1992; he then moved to Girondins de Bordeaux, where he played between 1992 and 1996. In that year he was transferred to Juventus and has not returned to any French club since, neither as a player nor as a coach.
