Barcelona found in Robert Lewandowski a striker capable of approaching the impressive statistics of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The Argentine forward and the Uruguayan striker formed a great attacking duo for many years, but between 2020 and 2021 both had to leave due to the club's serious financial problems.
This caused problems for Los Blaugranas, who for a couple of seasons could not compete with the giants of Europe, nor against Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in Spain. But that changed in 2022, when Lewandowski left Bayern Munich to join the Catalan side. And he quickly proved to be exactly what they needed: in his first season he scored 33 goals in 46 games and led the team to the La Liga title.
However, this may be a short-term solution for Barcelona. The Polish striker is 35 years old and knows that the end of his professional career is near, although he tries not to think about it. This is what he acknowledged this week, during an interview with El Chiringuito: "I don't think about what I've already won or what I've already done. I still have that feeling and passion inside me. I think I can still play soccer for three or four years, because physically I feel very good."
He has a contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2026. That means his idea is to stay there until expiration and then decide what to do with his professional career. Robert has received offers from other clubs, especially Saudi Arabia, and perhaps that will be his destination once he leaves Catalunya.
Lewandowski was also asked about what he will do once he retires. He said: "It will be difficult to live without being a soccer player after my career. But to be a coach..., I know it's a very difficult job. I'm not sure I'm going to be ready because you have to be 100% focused on soccer."
