In 2015 Liverpool agreed to hire Jürgen Klopp as their new manager. The former German player had excelled for 7 years at Borussia Dortmund, where he managed to beat Bayern Munich and win the Bundesliga title twice. Those results and the attacking style of play displayed by his teams attracted the attention of the Reds, who placed all their trust in him.
The coach did not disappoint them and quickly managed to consolidate the English side as one of the best in the Premier League. In fact, in the 2019/20 season they won the league title for the first time in over 30 years. In addition, they won the Champions League in 2019 after beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
Therefore, this news surprised everyone in England. In an interview with Mattias Hielscher, Klopp assured that he already made the decision to leave the club: "I have a contract with Liverpool until 2026 and I want to fulfill it, then take a sabbatical year." Thus, his hours as manager of the team are numbered and he will remain there for 3 more seasons.
And that was not all, as he then questioned his future as a coach: "It may be the end, but who knows how I will feel after a year? That's why I'm leaving the door open. While it is true that there is still a long time to go and his opinion may change in the coming years, no one expected one of the best managers in the world to decide to walk away from soccer when he is still so young.
Klopp is aiming to improve on Liverpool's performance last season, in which they finished fifth in the Premier League table and failed to qualify for the Champions League. That is why he has called for the recruitment of players to help raise the team's level. So far, Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have arrived.
