Barcelona and Sevilla are playing a great match at the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys in Montjuic. Both teams need to get a win to fulfill their objectives: Los Blaugranas can be leaders of the standings, at least until Girona and Real Madrid play on Saturday; Los Blanquirrojos have improved their performances in the last matches and want to get closer to the top positions.
During the first half both teams showed a good level and had chances to score the opener. Barcelona's most dangerous chance was a great play by Joao Cancelo, who dribbled past three opponents and assisted Joao Felix. The Portuguese forward shot at goal, but the ball hit the crossbar.
The visitors also tried their luck. Minutes later, Lucas Ocampos received a pass inside the box and shot with his right foot, but Gavi stepped in and prevented the goal. And then Dodi Lukebakio combined with Erik Lamela and shot, but goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen had a great reaction and saved it.
However, in the last minutes of the first half, Barcelona got terrible news: Raphinha received the ball inside the box and tried to shoot, but he made a great effort and felt a muscular pain that prevented him from continuing playing. That's why coach Xavi Hernandez had to replace him with Fermin Lopez. Then the TV cameras captured him on the bench, with gestures of pain and frustration.
If the medical tests reveal that Raphinha suffered an injury, it will not only be bad news for Barcelona. It will also be a concern for the Brazil national team, who in less than two weeks will play again for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. On Thursday, October 12, they will play against Venezuela at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá and 5 days later they will travel to Montevideo to face Uruguay.
