Barcelona are slowly becoming one of the best teams in Europe again. After several difficult years, in which they could not compete with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City due to the serious financial problems they were facing, last season they showed a great level and won the La Liga title.
Now the goal is to improve even more and become favorites to win the Champions League, a tournament in which they have not been champions since 2015. And for that, coach Xavi Hernandez knows they will need to keep their best players and, if possible, add some stars in the January transfer window. But things will not be easy. They still have problems with financial fair-play and will not be able to spend a lot of money to sign players. And not only that. They will also have to prevent other clubs from 'stealing' their biggest stars.
One of the Barcelona players who were targeted is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has shown since his arrival at the club in 2021 that, despite his advanced age, he is still a top player. And that has caught the attention of a Saudi Arabian club.
In an interview, Abha Club player Saad Bguir said: "We need top players like Lewandowski. Those are the kind of signings we should make if possible." That Bguir specifically mentioned Lewandowski is no coincidence. The team's coach is Czeslaw Michniewicz, who was manager of the Polish national team and has a great relationship with the striker.
In the summer Robert Lewandowski rejected other offers from Saudi Arabia, as his wish is to continue at Barcelona. There he has a contract there for another year and a half, until June 30, 2025. Once that contract expires, the striker will be almost 37 years old and perhaps he will choose a less demanding league like Saudi Arabia.
