Joao Felix had a lot of problems at Atlético Madrid during the last months. The Spanish side paid more than $120 million for him in 2019 in the hope that he would become the big star of the squad, but he never lived up to expectations and had a bad relationship with coach Diego Simeone. This caused his departure to Chelsea in January and then to Barcelona this summer.

His arrival in Catalonia was no coincidence. He gave an interview a few weeks before in which he assured that his dream since he was a child was to play for the Catalan team, something that was considered disrespectful to Atlético Madrid. And now again he had strong words against his parent club, to which he must return on July 1, 2024, if they do not agree to extend his loan at Barcelona.

In an interview with ESPN, Joao Felix was asked if he prefers Barcelona's style of play with Xavi Hernandez or Atlético Madrid's with Diego Simeone. And his answer was blunt: "Of course I prefer Barça's style...me and all the players". And then he went even further and added: "If you ask the Atlético players, they too would prefer to play longer in attack, of course. And if they don't answer you that they are lying."

He also repeated that being at Barcelona is a "dream come true". And about that he explained: "It's the club I wanted to play for since I was a kid, I watched them on TV for the last ten or fifteen years".

What will happen this weekend?

On Sunday Barcelona and Atlético Madrid will play at the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys in Montjuic. There Joao Felix will face his former teammates and his former coach Diego Simeone for the first time. When asked if he will celebrate if he scores a goal against Los Colchoneros, he said: "I don't have anything in mind? We'll see..."
