The last few weeks have not been easy for Paris Saint-Germain. The start of the 2023/24 season was not as good as the fans expected, as in Ligue 1 they have won four games, drawn three and lost one, which left them in third place in the standings behind AS Monaco and Nice. And in the Champions League they debuted with a win against Borussia Dortmund at the Parc des Princes, but then suffered a tough defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park.
And that's not all. Kylian Mbappé is on an unusually poor run of four games without scoring between the two tournaments and has been criticized not only for his performances, but also for his alleged habit of frequently going to late-night parties in Paris.
Coach Luis Enrique has not been able to escape questioning either. Many journalists in France believe that his decisions have not been the right ones and criticized him especially for the strategy he used in England, playing with 4 forwards and leaving the midfield unprotected.
In this context, PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi gave an interview to Le Parisien and surprised everyone by the optimism of his words: “This summer we have experienced a seismic and positive change at the club, more than anyone imagined. When you build new foundations, you need time, determination, patience and perseverance. Let's not overdo it. We've already seen flashes of brilliance after just a few weeks with the new, very young squad and staff. We know we're on the right track”.
Paris Saint-Germain will have the chance to be, at least for a few hours, leaders of Ligue 1 again. After the international break, they will play RC Strasbourg on Saturday, October 21 at the Parc des Princes and, if they get a win, they will overtake AS Monaco and Nice, until they play their matches.
