The last few weeks have been very intense for Barcelona. The chiefs worked knowing that there was less and less time left before the transfer window closed. They had to solve the financial fair play problems as soon as possible in order to register the players they had not yet been able to, such as Iñaki Peña and Iñigo Martínez, and to sign the players Xavi considered necessary: Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix.

These problems were solved on Friday, the last possible day, and the coach was able to use them in Sunday's match against Osasuna, in which Los Blaugranas won 2-1 with goals from Jules Koundé and Robert Lewandowski.

Now that he no longer has that concern, Joan Laporta can focus on another very important issue: Xavi's renewal. In June, the president had said that the priority first was to "build a competitive team" and then he would focus on that. And a few weeks ago coach himself said: "My renewal? From 0 to 10, it's 10".

On Monday, Sport newspaper reported that almost everything has been agreed between Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez to renew his contract until 2026. And not only that, the coach will also have improvements in the personal conditions of the deal, both for him and his assistants and other members of his staff. However, the official announcement could take a few weeks until Deco returns to Catalonia. The sporting director took a few days off after the last few weeks of intense work.

He earned it

Xavi Hernandez has done a great job since his arrival at Barcelona in 2021. When he was hired, after the departure of Ronald Koeman, things were not good at the club and results were negative. But since then things have improved: he won 58 games out of the 94 he managed, with an effectiveness of 67.73%, and won the 2022/23 La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles.
