Chelsea are the club that spent the most money during the last transfer windows. Since the arrival of new owner Todd Boehly, they paid a fortune to sign top players to help improve the squad, although that so far has not yielded the expected results on the field. In the winter of 2023, Mikhail Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez arrived at Stamford Bridge. The latter became the most expensive purchase in Premier League history (about $130 million).

And just six months later The Blues broke that record again when Moises Caicedo joined from Brighton & Hove Albion for $146 million. He was joined by Robert Sanchez, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, Ian Maatsen and Romeo Lavia, bringing the total to more than $1 billion in signings in less than a year.
But that could have serious consequences in the near future. According to The Telegraph, other English clubs believe Cheslea will be forced this summer to offload many players to raise the money needed to comply with financial fair-play rules. This has been a controversial issue in recent months in the Premier League, ever since Everton were sanctioned with a 10-point deduction for breaches related to this issue. However, this week the sanction was reduced to 6 points.
Should the West Londoners have to let some players go, the main ones targeted are three. Newcastle must pay $35 million for Lewis Hall, who is on loan at St. James' Park. In addition, Romelu Lukaku could be transferred permanently and his exit clause is $46 million. And the third is Ian Maatsen, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, but has a $44 million release clause.

If Chelsea can solve their financial problems with the sales of Hall, Lukaku and Maatsen, it will be a great move, as they are players who currently have no place in Mauricio Pochettino's team. But if that's not enough, other targets could be important players like Reece James, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah.
