Chelsea and Newcastle are playing one of the most interesting matches of the week in Europe. They are facing each other at Stamford Bridge for the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, the third most important tournament in England, after Premier League and FA Cup. Considering that neither of them compete in European tournaments anymore (The Magpies were eliminated in the Champions League group stage) and that they are far from the top of the league standings, this may be their only chance to win a title this season.

That's why coaches Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe decided to include most of the squad's stars in the starting lineups, hoping that this will give them a better chance of getting a win and advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.

However, that is no guarantee. Benoit Badiashile is one of the players who is usually part of Chelsea's team. The manager trusts in his talent and that is why he has given him prominence this season, but this time he made a mistake that cost them dearly. After 16 minutes of the first half the French defender received the ball in his own half and tried to give a back pass, but he did it wrong and allowed Callum Wilson to catch the ball. The striker, face to face with goalkeeper Petrovic, did not miss and scored the opener with a good right foot shot.

After the goal Mauricio Pochettino proved to be dissatisfied with his team's performance and surprised everyone by making a change during the first half: he took off Enzo Fernandez and instead decided to bring on Armando Broja to partner Nicolas Jackson in attack, with Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling as wingers.

It came close to working

In one of Broja's first appearances, he almost proved Pochettino right. The Albanian striker received an assist and scored the equaliser with a stroke of genius, but the assistant raised the flag and indicated offside.
