Just a week ago, the German Football Federation took the surprising decision to fire coach Hansi Flick for poor results since the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Rudi Voller took temporary charge of the team in the friendly match against France in which they won 2-1. The Sporting Director had assured at the time that a replacement would be chosen shortly. And it seems that he is close to fulfilling his promise.

According to Bild, the German Football Association has reached an agreement with Julian Nagelsmann to become the new coach of the German National Team. Just 36 years old, he has a wealth of experience managing clubs in his homeland: he started in 2015 at Hoffenheim, where he achieved good results, and moved on to RB Leipzig. There he finished third and then second in the Bundesliga, as well as reaching the final of the 2020 Champions League.

This attracted the interest of Bayern Munich, who signed him for the 2021/22 season. Curiously, there he was the replacement of Flick, who left his job at the club to manage Germany. With the Bavarian team he won the Bundesliga that season, but the following year he was sacked due to a conflict with the chiefs. However, he still has a contract with the club.

Therefore, in order to accept the position of national team coach, he must first terminate his contract with Bayern Munich. This will prevent him from continuing to earn his high salary until 2026, so he will forgo more than $20 million. In his new job he will earn much less: about $430,000 a month.

It will be a big challenge

According to reports, Julian Nagelsmann will sign a contract with the German National Team until Euro 2024. In that tournament they will be the hosts, so they will face the pressure of having to show a great performance in order not to disappoint the fans. For that they will have to work hard, as in the last few months the team was far from expectations. His first opportunity to work with the players will be soon, at the international break in October.
