Now that the group stage of the European tournaments is over and the knock-out stages will only be played in February, there is time for other competitions in England. This week the quarter-final matches of the Carabao Cup will be played, where eight teams will play against each other to try to become the four semi-finalists of the tournament.
Six of those eight teams play in the Premier League: Everton vs Fulham, Chelsea vs Newcastle and Liverpool vs West Ham United. While the fourth match is between a team from the Championship, the country's second division (Middlesborough) and another from English Football League One, the third division (Port Vale).
The Blues and The Magpies will play the most interesting match in Europe on Tuesday. Mauricio Pochettino's team have not had a good start in the Premier League and in the Carabao Cup they have a good chance to compete for a title this season. And Newcastle need a win to put last week's Champions League elimination behind them.
Chelsea's starting lineup will be: Dorde Petrovic; Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Ben Chilwell; Conor Gallagher, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez; Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling. On the bench will be Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom, Ian Maatsen, Malo Gusto, Alfie Gilchrist, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, Armando Broja and Alex Matos.
Newcastle have not won a major title in England for almost 80 years. The last time was in 1955. But in the previous season they were very close to being Carabao Cup champions, as they lost the final against Manchester United. Now they want a new opportunity and, after eliminating the two Manchester giants, they will face Chelsea. Coach Eddie Howe chose this XI: Martin Dubravka; Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman, Valentino Livramento; Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon.
