One of the first matches of the third matchday of Serie A was this afternoon's match between AS Roma and AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. There, the visitors put on a great display of soccer and deservedly won 2-1, thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, with a penalty in the first half, and Rafael Leao, with an impressive pirouette in the second half.

The Rossoneri proved superior to their opponents from the start of the match and scored the opener after 9 minutes, when referee Antonio Rapuano awarded a penalty for a foul by goalkeeper Rui Patricio on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Olivier Giroud stepped up to take the spot-kick and score his fourth goal in three games this season.

The disadvantage forced the hosts to push forward to find the equalizer, but they were unable to find a way to do so and showed that they are missing Paulo Dybala. The Argentine forward was unable to play due to injury and his team suffered. Already in the second half, Milan scored the 2-0 through Rafael Leao, who received a floated cross from the right and finished with a beautiful movement from the ground.

José Mourinho tried to improve his team by bringing on Romelu Lukaku in the second half, who played his first game on the Italian side. However, who could have scored the 1-2 was another player who had started as a substitute: Leonardo Spinazzola. But the goal came too late and the team had no time to equalize.

Ideal start

AC Milan have had an unbeatable start to the 2023/24 season. They have won all three of their matches and are so far the only leaders of Serie A. The only teams that can catch them are Napoli, who will face Lazio tomorrow, and Inter, who will play Fiorentina on Sunday at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium.
