Things are not going well for Manchester United in the Champions League. They were aiming to qualify to the round of 16 to compete with the best teams in Europe, but they have struggled in their opening games and are now last in the Group A standings with only 4 points out of a possible 15.
This Wednesday they had one of their last chances. They were facing Galatasaray in Turkey and needed to get a win to improve their situation in the group. And they started in a great way, as before 20 minutes of the first half they were leading 2-0 by goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes. But things started to get complicated after that, especially due to goalkeeper André Onana's mistakes, and they finally tied 3-3.
That result left them almost eliminated. Now they need to beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw in Denmark. Any other combination of results will leave them out of the Champions League.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Bruno Fernandes admitted to being disappointed and said: "It was another game where we could have closed the game. We had too many chances, as I've said, and mistakes by ourselves. It's too bad, to be honest. I don't want to be too negative, but what we've been doing in the Champions League is not enough. We have to control our games every time, it's not the first game we've had like this."
Despite being one of Manchester United's standout players, Bruno Fernandes is not safe from criticism. Former club star Paul Scholes was in the studio listening to the interview with the Portuguese midfielder and couldn't help but give his opinion on this: "I know in his interview he is talking about mistakes, but he made two big mistakes tonight by giving two stupid fouls away that lead to two goals. The full team, including himself as the captain, have to take responsibility. It's a game they should win".
