Arsenal are one of the teams that have invested the most money during the last transfer window in Europe. Coach Mikel Arteta felt it was necessary to sign top players to help improve the team in order to compete with the top clubs in England for the Premier League title, and in Europe for the Champions League.
The Gunners therefore spent $250 million to buy three players: defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax, midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham United and forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea. Timber unfortunately suffered a serious injury in his first Premier League game and will be sidelined for a long time, but the other two signings have quickly adapted to the team.
Now details of Rice's arrival at Arsenal have emerged. In an interview with TalkSport, Bukayo Saka, the London side's forward, told of his involvement in the negotiations: "Obviously he'd ask a few questions and I'd answer them. But yeah, I'd just try to give him the reassurance that he'd be coming to the right club and that the future is exciting for us."
Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have been teammates for years in Gareth Southgate's England squad and have a great relationship with each other. Both were part of the squad that played in Euro 2021 and the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In just a few games, Declan Rice already became one of Arsenal's most important players. In the last game they played in the Premier League he scored his first goal for The Gunners in the 3-1 win against Manchester United. Of this Saka said: "That was amazing, I think I've watched his goal back 20 times. It was an unbelievable moment for him and his family. Even the stadium, he said it was crazy when he felt the atmosphere".
