Chelsea's last few seasons have not been good. The London side are one of the clubs that have spent the most money in recent transfer windows in Europe. But, as is often the case in soccer, money does not always guarantee positive results. That is why this season, owner Todd Boehly decided to hire Mauricio Pochettino, a respected coach who has had good experiences at Southampton and Tottenham.

The boss, in addition to working to give the team his style and raise the level compared to last season, will have a difficult challenge: to break once and for all the curse of Chelsea's number 9, a bad streak that has haunted the squad for years.

In recent seasons, strikers who have been signed by the Blues and have chosen to wear the number 9 shirt have failed. That happened to Romelu Lukaku, Tammy Abraham, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata. That is why the forwards who arrived this summer on the London side, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, picked other numbers.

When asked about this at a press conference, Mauricio Pochettino replied: "For sure, if we bring in one more, now I'm going to be sure that he uses the 9 and try to change the feeling and the idea that this number is not cursed. We need to do some things to change the energy. I will ask the kit man to bring all the 9 shirts and we will do something to break it."

They need it

Christopher Nkunku's unexpected injury will keep him out of the squad until December. This has forced Chelsea to consider signing another striker who could join in the coming days and help replace the French player. According to The Sun, some forwards who could put an end to the curse are Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani, Lautaro Martinez and Darwin Nunez.
