The Argentine midfielder posted a video and a message on social media.

This week fans around the world were shocked by the news of Alejandro Gomez's positive doping. The midfielder took a test in November, when he was still a player of Sevilla of Spain, just a few days before joining the Argentina National Team to play the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where he played two matches (against Saudi Arabia and Australia) and was champion.

In recent days the Anti-Doping Sanctioning Committee of the Spanish Commission for the Fight Against Doping in Sport communicated to Monza, the player's current club, the results of the test and the two-year suspension.

This Sunday 'Papu' spoke publicly for the first time about this issue. He did so through his official Instagram account, where he shared a video in which he says: "As you all know, I was sanctioned for an anti-doping control before the World Cup. I tested positive for terbutaline, a substance that is in a cough syrup, which I accidentally took in one night, in a coughing fit of Milo, my youngest son. Sad and regretful, a domestic accident. Then I had several controls, during the World Cup and with Sevilla, and nothing ever happened, I was always negative".

He went on to say: “I was always an example on and off the field, and I think that in my 18-year career I was able to live up to that. I don't want to retire like this, I don't want to end my career like this, I don't think I deserve it. What I want most is to return to the courts, with my teammates, to play with Monza. I'm going to continue training on my own, and I hope that my lawyers and friends can solve the problem”.

This is what he will do

The second part of his message was a text, in which he explained: "I have put this matter in the hands of my lawyers as I consider that the processing of the disciplinary file has not been carried out in accordance with the regulations". And then he ended with a message to the fans: "Finally, I want to thank all the signs of affection and support received in these complicated moments at a professional level".
